You need to break in the pads after installing new ones. Simply, make 7-10 moderatly hard stops from 35-40 mph, 1 to 1min 30sec apart (enough time to let the system cool off). Do this on a clear road where you won't have to use your brakes other than as mentioned above.
Most brake shops don't do this, so one should get in this habit after any brake work.
Not breaking in the pads will led to spongy free initially and premature wear.
