I figure the versions & the badges differ from country to country. We've got a '89 900 'base' which only means it was the cheapest one available in the US. My shop manual says that 8-valve CIS still existed somewhere. There's even an 8-valve carburated version that exists somewhere in the world in '89, so the USA 'base' isn't the most basic version worldwide...
The dealer paperwork for our '01 9³ says "9-3 325" or "9-3 S" depending on where you look. But there's no "S" badge on the car. The Marketing Department at work...
