Anything else I should check?

Today on my way into work I was driving my 9-3 behind an SUV on a two-lane highway, both of us were going about 40mph. All of a sudden the SUV driver swerves, appears to hit something in the road, and then I see it. A large pulley or small wheel (about 6" in diameter and about 4" thick) emerged from under the SUV and began rolling across the lane. (It must have fallen off one of the many large trucks or constrcution vehicles that also travel along that highway.) I first tried to stop, but when I realized there was not enough distance, I tried to gauge the speed at which it was rolling (fairly slow) and go around it. Well, I did not quite miss it. The outer edge of my left front tire rolled over it followed by a loud "bang".
Thinking I must have blown out the tire, I immediately pulled over. To my surprise, the tire had not blown out. The bang must have been the pulley/wheel hitting the back edge of the wheel well behind the tire. (At which point the thing must have kicked back out because I could not immediately spot it still in the road.)
A quick visual inspection of the tire and the wheel showed no apparent damage except for a large scuff on the sidewall of the tire. I looked under the 9-3 for any visible damage to the axel, oil pan, etc. No visible damage, no leaks...
On the remainder of my drive into work I stayed attentive for any sign of alignment problems, but surprisingly my 9-3 seemed to handle just fine, the same as ever.
So, while I seem to have been very lucky, I am wondering if there could be any less obvious damage that should be checked?
