Normally an AC system never needs a recharge. I can't tell you the number of people with their AC not working who tell you "It only needs to be charged". Well it needs to be recharged because there is a leak. Could be hoses, fittings, compressor or maybe a stone got into the condensor, the radiator next to the water radiator.
Look for dirt accumulating around the leak. When AC fluid leaks it attracts dust and dirt. Clean means no leak. A dirty spot indicates a leak. Most shops have a geiger counter kind of a device that clicks around AC leaks. Is the dye they used sensitive to UV light? Like what they would use to detect an oil leak?
