Dean,

On my 9-3 the belt already goes direct from the slack adjuster to the power steering pump.

When looking at the engine from the passenger side of the car and tracing the belt path in a clock-wise rotation, the belt wraps around the bottom of the crankshaft pulley, then up and around the idler pulley that is held on by a torx bolt (the one I want to eliminate), then down and around the alternator, then back up and around the slack adjuster pulley, then straight over to the power steering pump, then down to the water pump and back to the crank.

Are you working on a NG900 or a 9-3 ?? Sounds to me like the 1st advice I got may be correct, that the 9-3 eliminates one idler pulley, but not both.
