We had good luck with Blizzaks we have put three seasons on, but I am really tempted to go with steel wheels and a tire package myself this year as we lost a Blizzak to a flat last year and rim damage is atrocious on our 9-3 SE 5 door, which is way beyond warranty at 85K.
I recomend you consider the 15 inch steel rims if you can as they will be cheaper and you can run a tire with more sidewall, which will impact handling a bit but be easier on the potholes if you live in MA like us. It just depends how much you like your car to handle in the winter. If you like handling buy the 16's.
I will however, warn you that when we bought the 16inch snows for our Viking rims they were out of the regular size and we put on one the "next size up" and they do rub on the struts a bit over big bumps when the back seat is loaded with passengers. They are otherwise fine.
