more info on your door locks . . . continued

continued from the thread below . . .
One press of the lock button on the remote and you get the familar chirp and all four door lock. A second press and you get the single chirp followed by a horn beep (we'll call this "double-locking for clarity sake).
Now, if you've "double-locked" the car and you unlock it with the remote, all four door unlock as well as the hatch (no need to press the hatch button). However, if you've double-locked the car, and you just unlock the hatch, don't try unlocking the doors with the key or you will set off the alarm.
I fully realize that these results may depend upon the car's techII settings. My 99 9-3SE is set to auto-lock all four doors at 5 mph, unlock all four door with one push of the remote, and chirp at half the volume of the standard (I believe to achieve this, the dealer had to use the "european" settings).
Bottom line, "double-locking" does something else to the car . . . I'm just not sure yet exactly what that is.
Stay tuned.
