Im 19 and just this spring got a 1999 9-5SE. I purchased with assistance from my dad, but I will end up paying 75% of the cost. From age 16 up until this time I was driving a 1993 Ford Taurus (GL if anyone cares). I didnt particularly enjoy this vehicle as all my friends had nicer cars than I did. But I stuck with it and was able to reward myself this year with my own new car. It wasn't given to me, I had to save significant money to purchase. I also researched a lot of cars before I settled on Saab. I think that has made me appreciate it that much more. That and the fact that I have to deal with everything that occurs to it, from the cost of gas to repairs.

I dont think I'd have the same sort of respect or caution for my saab if it had just been given to me, IMHO. But that may be different in your situation. Do what you please, but dont let the kid have a big head just because he is cruising around in a brand new Saab. I have mine and I know what it takes to get there.
