heard a similar story on npr's car talk. your fuel consumption is up because when the engine is cold the computer tell the fuel injectors to send more fuel into the cylinders. if your thermomete,r or some relay in between themometer-guage- computer, is whacked, then the car's computer is being told that the engine is cold even when it is not and you are using too much gas.
