Yeah, I saw that! The 9-3 had the 1.8t engine, the BMW had the 1.8, the Volvo had a 2.0t, and the Jag, a 2.0. The 9-3 1.8t beat them all in 0-60 (9.2 sec). They appreciated the lack of turbo lag, and they really liked the handling. They also remarked on how the new 9-3 is MUCH more comfortable on a long drive than the 318.
Suprisingly, the Jag received a good amount of criticism, considering this is a UK magazine. They especially disliked the brakes, which necessitated steering correction during a hard stop. Why do all Fords have lousy brakes?
A few interesting points--in the UK, the 9-3 has a 3 year/unlimited mile warranty (compare to 3 years/36,000 miles in the U.S.), and its service interval is 2 years/18,000 miles! (not sure what the new 9-3's service interval is in the U.S., but my 9-5 has a maximum interval of 10,000 miles)
Also, I've always wondered about this: when you convert the price of a UK car to US dollars, the UK car is almost always 1.5 times more expensive! Why is that? Is the average British salary 1.5 times higher? If not, it must be quite difficult to afford a nice car over there...
