Hi Mike2
I have generally torqued wheel nuts on soft alloy wheels in the 65-70 ft/lb range. Before installing the studs, you should lubricate the threads and seats with a non-siezing lubricant (often copper-based) available at any autoparts store. This assures a smooth seat and twist so that all of the applied torque is actually securing the wheels to the mounting flange. Over-torqueing a wheel stud is a primary cause of warping and damage to the wheel. It is not unusual for service stations to torque wheels studs to 100-125 ft/lbs. Even if the wheel survives this abuse, the stud is literally stretched, which greatly weakens its ability to absorb shock and remain intact. Remeber to re-check the torque after 100+/- miles of service.
Best of luck on your "studly" adventures
Eric
