The BPV is tee'd into the bend of duct comming from the IC towards the throttle body (TB). The BPV connects to the turbo duct with a short 25mm hose (1"). The BPV discharges through a 25mm hose that goes across the front of the engine to connect to the turbo inlet.
The BPV has a 4mm VAC line going to the TB.
So replacement is a simple screwdriver job that you could complete while holding your breath.
The Forge unit works well, as will any metalic piston type valve. The forge comes in black as well and looks similar to the OEM unit. The TurboXS type S BPV will also work, but it is much larger. You will have to cut about 3/4 off of the short 25mm coupling hose to get it to fit. You could also install a BOV in this location if you were into lots of noise.
Check the state of the 4mm hose. The rubber on earlier years hardened and became crumbly. So see how it is on your 99.
This tooting of the OEM plastic diaphragm valves is a well known and predicable outcome. It was reported once that reversing the orientation of the OEM valve would help, but others have tried this and found that it did not. I and many others have purchased piston type valves to end the tooting, not to get any performance gains.
