sounds strange... Posted by JimBlake [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: JimBlake -more on the big bang driving experience..., Drew, Sat, 26 Oct 2002 01:13:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Most of your story sounds like brakes are seizing, but I think it should leave marks on the rotors. The chattering clutch sounds like its probably not related. But the part about the shift lever being stuck in reverse doesn't fit. I'm kind of stumped.
How about shifting into neutral before starting the engine; you'll have to turn the key on, just don't start it. Does that make it 'bang'? Engage the clutch (let up the pedal) with the engine NOT running; does it 'bang'? Disengage clutch, start engine with gearbox in neutral. Leave in neutral, engage clutch; does it 'bang'? Then put it in gear & engage clutch just enough to move; does it bang? I'm trying to tell if its the clutch vs. the transmission vs. the brakes.
If you can't do that, then park it in neutral. You've said that setting the parking brake didn't matter. If you have a garage or a secure place to park, leave it in neutral, set parking brake & chock wheels. Then next morning, leave it in neutral, press in the clutch, & start the above procedure.
I'm beginning to wonder if something in the gearbox can seize up overnite. That sounds kind of farfetched to me, but has the transmission fluid ever been changed?
Other than that, I'd be interested to know what the shop says about it today.
