The crankshaft position sensor is the heartbeat of the engine. The ECU uses it for injection and ignition timing.
Checked all of the VAC lines going to the TB? Check the large one for the charcoal canister purge valve for splits and cracks. The purge valve needs to be closed at idle or idle can't be controlled very well. You can clamp its hose to the TB shut for a while and see if the running improves, if it does fix things, then the valve is stuck open, or the ECU is defective and keeping it energized. Watch to see if the hose cracks when clamped off. The valve will not be energized at idle either.
The TPS is a variable resistor in these engines. You can get someone to connect a TechII and get a reading of the throttle position. Look for any jumpyness or non-linearity. You could do the same with a DVM. The connector and terminals are not easy to get at. It gets 5VDC and has a variable output. You could pierce the output wire and read the volts that the ECU sees and look for problems that way too. The ECU probably sinks the output to ground via something like a 1?K resistor, and measures the voltage across that. So with the ECU off, you can measure the resistance to ground of the ECU connections and identify the input wire, or look things up in Haynes. Haynes might have a resistance range for the crankshaft sensor.
An irratic TPS or CPS should throw a CEL.
And look at the mechanical integrity of the wires and connectors.
Throttle body to manifold and manifold to head bolted joints securely fastened?
Have you tried another DI?
