The tang part that gets bolted up is in a level plane of course, then it bends 90 degrees and continues forward to near the axle fabrication at a 45 degree or so angle, then before it gets to its end, it bends another 45 degrees to be running for and aft so that a simple burnt round hole will recieve the tube. That makes for the welding joint. A larger hollow tube also presents a longer circumference for the weld joint which is a good thing. So we have one tube and two laser cut formed up end pieces. The section of the flat stock between the tube and bolted area will be structurally hard in terms of transmitting and resisting the torque reaction forces of the tubes, but will be flexible in terms of isolating the bolted joint from rotational loads.
I did quite well in statics and did some significant stuctural analysis on the midget man missile transport prototypes and G.M. LAVs uses by the marines and the LAVs being build for the US Army are decendants of those platforms. I can see lots of the issues in my head and as soon as I saw the pressed flats in the stock sway bar I recongnized was this did, and when I got the SAS sway bar clicks, I appreaciated the know how that was evident in the stock sway bar. So you really do want a thiner vertical section in the design. The SAS sway bar is an effective brute, but not a refined design.
