This just happened to me too..pulley broke followed by shreaching and
smoking of belt melting.. I was stranded. No noisey belt or warning
before this.
My theory; the design is flawed big time...who's idea was it to put a
plastic pulley on this. The cold weather (20's) obviously made the
plastic brittle and more prone to crack/break. I thought it was cold
in Sweden (but obviously the designers didn't test the pulleys with any
sort of mileage).
Dealer replaced with new belt and another plastic pulley. Why can't they
make a metal one so we don't get stranded?
I think we should all write a letter to Saab; the reliablity of a $28K
car is all based on a piece of plastic...gheesh.
