2003 A4 vs. 2003 9-3

that's my friend's 2003 A4 1.8T in the background. i dunno how people in this BB can start trashing the interior in the saab. yes there are somethings in the linear model that detract from the quality of the interior, i.e the cloth inserts on the door and arm rest, and the leather seats aren't as nice as the A4's. But besides those two major flaws in the saab's interior, the rest of the interior is on par with the A4's. audi doesn't offer powered seats in the 1.8T model, so i guess saab's one up in that regard.
performance wise, the saab is a little slower off the line than the A4, this is due to saab's tall gear ratio, which is good for fuel economy and highway cruising, bad for quick acceleration. but the saab still has plenty of zip, even with the quirky tall gear ratio. i got the sport package thrown in on my saab, so the ride's very stiff, but handling is very responsive. one thing that saab does better than audi is the tires. saabs w/ sport package come with pirelli pzero rossos as opposed to audi's continentals. for driving enthusiasts, this means one of the best performance tires available. but that doesn't really matter to the A4 because handling is aided by the quattro. personally i think both cars are beautiful, and fun to drive. but since i live in new england, and have to deal w/ new england weather, i would probably opt for the quattro, big time benefit in crappy weather.
thanks for the info on the drain plug guys. i just hope the dealer doesn't rape me when i buy a new plug. they charged me 5 bucks for a new o-ring when i changed my filter.
