You note simply slowing down regardless of application to do so causes the noise to appear, so I wouldn't necessarily look at the brakes right off the bat.
Definitely check the torque on the wheel studs first as plum noted.
Since you noted doing doughnuts, is there a lot of snow/ice built up in the wheel well or around the suspension? Packed in snow or ice can cause pretty unique sounds anywhere on a car (exhaust, heat shields, brakes, suspension, etc.). Doug P's suggestion of spraying it off is cheapo and easy (alternately, you could go soak a friend's garage floor if it is warm enough to thaw out the car for a day or two).
Beyond that start checking CV joints and suspension components.
Does the brake pedal or tranny transmit any new vibration or sensations? Does the car pull when accelerating/coasting/slowing?
