I purchased a set of Michelin Pilot Alpins for my 2000 9-3 before its first winter. At the time I lived in the Taunus Mountains near Wiesbaden, Germany and wanted a winter tire that had a speed rating since I drove on unrestricted autobahn every day. I am very pleased with the tire since it proved to be a definite improvement over the OEM Michelin MXV4 V-rated tires that came on the car. The Pilot Alopins seem to wear well even after the high speed driving. I also found them to be very good in snow and on ice. Since then I've moved to Hawaii. I chose to put the Pilot Alpins on the car since they were in good shape and the OEM tires were almost in need of replacement. So now I drive around Hawaii on winter tires. Anyway, the tire seems to handle quite well up to about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Then they seem a little slippery (compared to the colder tempuratures), but not bad since they do hold. They are also a very good rain tire. I intend to return to a V-rated tire when these wear out since I am uncomfortable driving on a tire that is rated less than what the car can put out, and I do want a performance oriented tire. If I return to a climate that has snow, I will go back to having a summer tire and a winter tire. I discovered that I do not like all season tires in the snow.
