personal perception and personal driving habits will dictate whether one car seems faster than the other.
There's a noticable difference for me between the 9-3 base, the SE, and the Viggen in 5spd trim. The effect is muted but still noticable in an auto.
If you don't get on your car very much, the difference obviously is less perceptible. But if you're at full boost and tell me you can't feel a difference, I gotta think your "seat of the pants" calibration is off :-)
What you feel, by the way, is usually the torque difference, not the hp.
I've never driven a NG900, but I'm quite positive than an equally fast C900 would FEEL much faster than my 9-3, even though objectively their performance was the same. The 9-3 is more insulated, in my opinion.
Steve's right in that there probably is some variability between cars (they say the ECU "learns" driving habits), but I'd say the much bigger factor is the human one.
Cheers,
