HOWEVER,
I purchased a '99 from lease about 8 months ago ['99 9-3, coupe, 27k, 5spd snrf, cloth, silver greeen, $14,5]. Thus far, I have taken the car in for a few things, but the dealer here in Birmingham, AL is extremely accomodating. When I first got the car, the passenger door pull wasnt right, so it was replaced free. They noticed a couple lines in the SID were off, so I got a new SID as well. I had to get the 30k service (pricey, but for the treatment I get at the dealer, I feel worth it; this is the only thing I've paid for), during this service they noticed the handbrake was out of spec and fixed it. Another time a headlamp went out, and I got the SID message for light failure. While fixing my light (and showing me how to operate the SID and changing my headlight switch designations to my request), they noticed wear on the muffler and replaced it free. They are very considerate of my schedule, giving me a free rental or a ride or a loaner while my car is in the shop. I brought my car into the shop for a squeak noise in the right rear suspension, and the tech told me at the end of the day that the noise was mostly gone, but not all gone. He said to bring it in the next day, as he wasn't satisfied. The next day they call me at work at 5pm, 'Sir we're sorry, we thought we had it, but it came back on the testdrive. I have a loaner car here for you for overnight'. The Loaner was the new '03 9.5 with the 230hp V6 and the manual automatic tranny. Tres sweet. My car was perfect the next day. All that for a squeak. I left the country for 6 weeks at the beginning of winter, and the battery failed (completely dead; I guess a 4 year old car is entitled to lose a battery, but at the time it was an inconvenience). I was given a same day free replacement, and received a follow-up call later that week from the dealership's service manager to make sure everything about my car was satisfactory. In short, I have found Saab's warranty service to be excellent, dependable, and thorough [free headlamps and fuses, free muffler, free battery???? are you kidding me? My friend with a new Subaru couldnt even get a loaner car overnight, and had to pay for those 'disposable' parts during his warranty period.. I think I'll ask the dealer if they'll replace my tires for free as well, haha]. It is completly worth paying a bit more now for an extended bumper to bumper [I have one to 5 yrs from purchase or 75k on the car. I think it was under $1500...If you want to know more about this option email me and Ill get that info to you]. I love everything about my car. It is doubtless the finest automobile I have ever owned. All said, there are a few more service visits for the Saab than there would be a Honda, but the level of performance from the automobile and service from the dealership greatly outshines any other car I considered. Best of luck, Mark. The saab is definitely worth it!
