Hi,
I have a 1999 SE HOT.
Reading through your previous posts, and having just replaced my own BPC, I think that your problems may stem from that device. If no hoses are loose, split, or disconnected as David speculated, the BPC is the device that controls the air signal from your turbo to your wastegate.
If the BPC is flaking out (as many mechanical solonoids will over time), either mechanically of electronically, it may be allowing overboosting (sounds like your lurching problem) at times, and preventing boost at others. I have a manual transmission, but in top gear on boost, my needle would spike well into the red on occassion, and then start lurching around between yellow and red (I descibed it as feeling "lumpy" on boost). Sometimes it would barely peak over the middle of the yellow (6 psi or so). I have snagged a clipping from a NG900 post (T-5, same as our cars) that may be relevant on testing the BPC:
Checking for faulty boost controll panel(BCP)
1. Blow into the hose from the turbocharger marked (C) and check that air comes out of the hose to the wastegate's diaphragm unit which is marked(W).
2. Blow into the return hose from the intake pipe marked (R) and check that air comes out of the hose to the wastegate's diaphragm unit again marked(W).
If this BCP does not work in this function then it needs to be replaced.
This might give you a test to try, at least. I don't know hopw you troubleshoot the ECU to BPC connection, however.
The dealer replaced my BPC under warranty, and all was well in boost land again. It might be worth convincing the dealer to let you try one out at least, and check the hoses while you're there.
Best,
Lutfisk
