no, but i bet he figured out how to break it off. to the right side of the shift lever (but not on the lever), there should be a metal ridge. it looks like a fin, pointing forward with the edge straight up. the reverse lockout is a piece of plastic that goes on the fin and rubs up against the bottom of the shift lever. you probably have some plastic remaining there, but not enough to make the lockout work.
at the bottom of the shift lever, also on the right side, you should see a protrusion in the plastic sleeve that moves up and down when you lift up on the shift knob. that's the piece that makes contact with the other part that attaches to the metal fin.
since most goofballs don't know how to get a saab into reverse, they usually force the lever to the right (just like a honda, right?), breaking or dislodging the lockout tab. it's happened to me several times from valet parking.
i don't think the part is very expensive, but i've heard it's not easy to put in correctly. your mechanic should be able to do it without much problem.
