Maybe I'll jump in here, since I've been going through the same ordeal. During the middle of the summer of 2002, the dealer took my wheels to refinish them. They found 2 bent ones, and attempted to balance them. Those were put onto the rear of the car, and all was good. Last winter, when I took my summer tires off for the season, everything was still great. When I tried to put them back on this spring, I figured that I would rotate them, and put the bent ones on the front. Above speeds of 30kph, this terrible moaning came from the front (I checked the back seat, just to be sure), and the steering went numb. I threw my winter set back on, and the problem went away. I'm no rocket scientist, but I think the cause of my problem was bent wheels.
Try balancing your tires...that will surely indicate any bending.
Cheers,
Mark
