HP is what you get at perhaps 5500 rpms. You don't drive much up there. More important is the torque in the rpm bands that you used all of the time, and with a turbo engine, boost lag is a very important issue. So you have to be concerned with the responsiveness of the boost control system and engine. HP figures are totally useless for this type of evaluation. Dyno figures are similarily suspect! In many cases your seat of pants dyno and grin factor are more important than anything else.
Also, it is easy to have a vehicle with lower HP figures, published or dyno'ed, for a vehicle that is lower than another and the vehicle with the lower HP figures will leave the higher HP vehicle in the dust around town. But dyno results can be very usefull to measure improvements on a given vehicle setup.
As an example, a 185HP engine with a MBC and good basic mods might pull better in 2nd gear than a Viggen or base unit with an ECU mod.
