Just changed plugs... much better, strange wear?

I used to have an '88 900T before I got my '99 9-3. In the C900 when I woud change plugs, about every 30-40k, most of the time the plugs would be worn on the center electrode and the edges would be rounded over.
My 9-3 has 31k miles and Im asuming that the plugs I took out were the originals. BCPR7es-11's, nice and tan in color however all the wear was on the hook part of the plug, the electrode still had sharp edges. I could see the erosion of the hook and they all spec'd out to .050-.060!
End result is that the car idles smoother now. Before I used to have a "notchy" accceleration curve, now its much smoother.
Is the DI the reason the wear is opposite of what im used to seeing on the C900's? Why does the 9-3 eat plugs?
