Actually, I used the K & N before. I wasn't that impressed. First, like you said, it was salty. Second, it seemed to require too much torque and tightening and it still seeped some oil. There always seemed to be a drop of oil hanging from the seal. Plus, when I went to remove it, the rubber gasket was stuck on the engine. That's why I went to the "sure grip" Fram...all the Fram required (every time I used it on my other non-Saab cars) was "hand tight".
