I just got my 1994 C900TC Commemorative edition back from a body shop that specializes in SAAB and Volvo work. $1500 got me rust patch on the bottom of the door, 4 other surface rust fixes, sanding of all chips on hood, removal of 2 nasty door dings, appropriate metallic charcoal basecoat on front half of car, full clearcoat and blend on front half of car. It looks spectacular. A true craftsman's job, and a good value (in my mind).
Find a shop with a similar reputation near you. Where do guys take restoration cars for work? Are there any porsche/jag/vintage car clubs in your area? Get some ideas from those guys. You don't want a shop that churns through insurance repairs on beater cars. One shop near me is closely affiliated with (if not owned by) Allstate. They went from one of the best games in town to one notch above Earl Scheib. It's in their best interest do pump a high volume of low quality work through, and hope they don't get people coming back. It's a shame.
As for your repair... Consider, you're talking 2 body panels, some molding, and non-metallic paint. Plus it's unfaded paint since the car is fairly new. A good shop should have it looking like new for a pretty good price. See if you get a "cash discount" if it's not on insurance, if you know what I mean. A mom and pop shop should we willing to work such a deal. It's up to you to think about your deductible and weighing the potential costs of a claim raising your rates.
