Rotors(discs) wear thin as the pads rub against them. City driving causes alot more braking and pad and rotor wear than highway driving. If you drove from NY to calif.and back 10 times on the superhighways you would have over 60,000mi on your car and probably still nearly new brake pads and rotors. So milage alone doesn't really tell if you need replacement
One way to know if your rotors really needed to be changed is to measure them yourself after they are returned to you. (Request in writing to service manager that any parts replaced be given back to you .)
Asking the service dept. to return your worn parts keeps them more honest.
And believe me there are some crooks out there.)
Sure they can give you somebody elses old worn parts so if you are really paranoid, file or scratch identifiers before taking your car in.
