While the Viggen is not posting a 0-60 or 1/4 mile time as quick as the M3, S2K, S4 etc, you have to remember that it is limited in 1st and 2nd gear which slows these times significantly. Also, in 3rd and above, it will post passing speed times that are excellent by any standard. My recent/current stable is as follows M3, M5, 355F1, C36 AMG, SLK32 AMG. I also used to be a huge Audi guy so have lots of experience there too. The Viggen belongs to my wife and is a blast to drive even when compared to any of the above. All will outrun it in the 1/4 or 0-60 but from 60+ in 3rd gear, only the M5, 355F1 and SLK32 pull stronger(I am at 5300' so all the others are at a disadvantage as they don't compensate for altitude). And the 3 cars on my list that out pull the Viggen are priced between $60K and $160K, I think that makes the Viggen an amazing deal at $38k!
I am also convinced that with an ECU that removes the limiting in 1st/2nd and bumps the power overall, the Viggen will play with the others even better and could quite possibly post a 5.6 to 60 and a 13.9 in the 1/4. I could be wrong but when the warranty runs out in 5 months, I intend to bolt the toys on to find out for myself! :)
Besides, how many of the other contenders can haul massive amounts of cargo?! The only gripes that I have are the plastic in the dash, the stupid looking door pulls and a front valance so low that it scrapes in places that even the Ferarri won't! But all these factors make the Saab different and well, a Saab!
