like Matt said...and practice!
For years I've also driven pickups with toppers and cargo vans, for my business. It just takes practice until you're confident of your judgement while using the mirrors backing up.
I'm so used to side mirrors, I have to remind myself to actually use the rear view mirror when I get in a car.
