Everyone you talk to on here has pad material remaining when the rotor is nearly worn out. My '01 viggen has about 1/2 pad remaining but the rotors have worn to the bottom of the slots. That confirms my opinion that saab uses more abrasive metallic pad material. Cheaper organic pad material wears out before the rotor but isn't quite as good for braking. I've used the cheapest organic pads on my spg and haven't replaced the rotors in 5 yrs. I finally bought semi-metallic the last time because they didn't have the other pads in stock. ON the viggen, I love the braking and plan on sticking with stock rotor/pad or maybe step up to carbon fiber pads.
