Hello All,
I recently put the SAAB 5 Spoke Double 17" rims mounted with 215/45ZR17 ContiExtremeContacts on my '99 9-3. They look great. I've had them on for a week now and I'm a little confused. I expected my speedo to be a little off. (About 1.6% according to a tire size calc. I recently checked out.) No big deal there. That being said, I expected the MPG on my SID to inaccuratley go up. (Slightly larger circumference = less revolutions per mile = more MPG's. Please let me know if my logic is wrong there, I'm no math guru.) Anyway, the exact opposite has happened. My MPG's went from averaging about 29 MPG to about 23 MPG. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

According to the place where I go the rims, they are supposed to "fit" the older 9-3's even though they come on the newer 9-3 Sport Sedan. No doubt about it, the bolt pattern is right because they are on my car. But what about the offset? I have no idea what the offset is on these new rims. Could a "wrong" offset cause what I describe above? Does anyone know what the offset is for these rims? (I put a link to them in this post.)

The thing that scares me a little is now I see at saabcatalog.com that they sell rims for the 9-3 Sport Sedan and claim that they only fint the SS due to technical reasons. Yikes! Am I paranoid?

BTW, in going from the stock 15" Delta wheels to the new 17" I did not notice a big difference in ride quality. ie. not all that harsh a ride. (Running 38PSI front and 34PSI rear.) However, I am now hearing suspension noises that I have never heard before going over bumps in the road. Could it be that my tired old suspension (almost 60K miles on it) is compensating for the less forgiving tire/rim combo and is giving way?

Please advise...

As always,
Thanks in advance,

SR
