Gabriel,

Are you using the stock head unit? And if so, are you using an amp with it? The heart of the harshness problems lies with the stock Head. I just (yesterday) switched to a Kenwood Excelon w/MP3 and all of my sound woes of the system went away. The sound has 2x detail, and I have full control of MY EQ curve to match my acoustics now, including a MID adjustment and Center Frequencies for bass, treble, mid, and sub.

Trust me on this one. Alot of people will tell you that stock head is good just because it has a Clarion or Pioneer sticker on it. But its not even close in sound quality of a good aftermarket unit. I was somewhat disappointed with my system, and because so many people praise the stock head, I figured it was my speakers that brought the system down. But now I love it, cant get enough. It totally bread new life into my speakers and I actually like them very much now.

So what Im saying is perhaps you might want to consider a new head before you blame the speakers. You can upgrade speakers all day long, but if the source is crap you'll go no where. I spent literally 10's of hours trying to tailor the stock unit to sound "good" with little tweaks here and there ....It never did.

Kenwood Excelon X-569
Rockford Fosgate Power 400a4
Polk EX 3560 6.5 Dash/Doors w/Dynamat & Polyfill
Polk EX 369 6x9 w/polyfill
Kenwood 8" powered sub
Monster XLN 4-channel Interconnects

Not really a "high dollar" system, but sounds great none the less

If you havent yet, definatley dynamat the doors, and if you are comfortable with it, add some polyfill. Big difference.
