I bought 17" Borbet 5 spoke with Sumitomo HTR high-performance all season tires last winter and have found the rims and tires to be bullet proof when hitting "huge" potholes at highway speeds. Several times I was sure I would have blow out or at least a dented rim. Not even a scratch! Lesson is that while Ronal makes a fine looking wheel, other German wheel manufacturers also offer fine products that can sometime be acquired for less than the OEM Ronals. Now had I known about Ronal and its web site when I bought my tires, I might have purchased Ronals but its hard to beat TireRack's convenience, service and prices and the Ronal Site is lets say it, primitive, in comparison to TireRack. Now I wish Ronal would distribute rims through retailers such as Tirerack but the supply chain is what it is.
Also my original Ronal15" three spoke viking OEMs were not so durable and cost $250 per rim from the dealer when I dented a couple.
One performance note: steering kickback on uneven pavement increases as you enlarge the wheel size but the handling and turn in more than makes up for the steering kickback. Even the Talieferro KIC steering brace will not reduce this kickback as it is a function of the steering design geometry.
