I would change the oil at 3k, back to Mobil 1. No real problem there.
Check the transmission fluid condition. If they really did change it (drained and added four quarts), it should be very pink. If not, I'd go ahead and change it now. Its very easy to do, even easier than changing the oil if you are so inclined. Most people here drain, fill, drive around a little, then drain and fill again. The transmission holds about 7-8 quarts, and only about 3.5 come out when you drain. There is no filter on these transmissions (based on your timeline, I'm assuming you have a '99 9-3?).
Pads - all depends on your driving of course, but I'd guess you have at least 10,000 miles left on those pads. Curious though, the fronts were thicker than the rears. Have you had the brakes worked on previously?
