Lots of reasons. The automakers/sellers in the US recommend oil that yield a good cafe MPG rating, not an oil that is optimal for the life of the engine. Will the 10W30 get you through the warranty period? Yes. Is that really what you want?
Your engine is the same basic engine a in the 2003 9-5 production. The owners' manual does not exclude the use of this oil in those. Have you read your manual to see what optional oils are suggested? Note that the 2003 9-3's do require the M1 0W40 or Saab's own oil.
As long as the M1 10W30 and 0W40 are often the same price or very close, there is no economic reason to avoid the 0W40. And the M1 0W40 may get better MPGs than the 10W40 so that would be the cost driven choice.
