In a 99 Viggen. I was getting a bad shimmy from 55 to 70 and the same noises as you described in your post from the passenger side. They found the strut mount to be bad and the spring support highly corroded. They replaced the strut mount and support bearing and the shock support bushing. I also had 2 bent rims replaced - they said that was the cause of the shimmy. I still have a slight shimmy 55 to 70, but it is much better.
Now...the driver's side mount is making the same noise. I really couldn't tell you if that was there prior to my last visit to the dealer since the passenger noise was louder. I am guessing it might be the same thing, not sure. The shimmy though must play some role in all of this so I am not sure if you are getting any shimmies at high speeds.
My next visit I am going to have them look at few things based on what I have read on this board:
1) High speed wheel balance (might fix shimmy problem)
2) Check inner drivers. If the cv boot seal gets broken and the inner joint loses it grease, then the inner cv joint can start to wear a pattern into the inner driver which can cause vibration at higher speeds. I will have them inspect this by opening up the boot and checking to see if there is enough grease and check the inside of the inner driver for any weird patterns in the side of the driver.
3) Check the driver's strut mount and spring support
Hope that helps some. Don't know about the base springs and struts vs. the SE.
