Yes, I recently ran my mid-interval UOA on the M1 0W-40 I've had in the 9-3 since December. It was only 4700 miles in seven months of driving, with most trips (about 95%) being less than 10 miles. And this included the DV testing time period, so I had multiple 6k rpm runs after exposing the air intake to unfiltered air (during the DV swaps). Oh, & I had the BG "induction/injection system cleaning" process done at the dealer to try & fix a cold-start problem, so that possibly affected the oil as well.

It looked good enough to run the full 10k miles, even with all the abusive treatment. My only concern was that viscosity had dropped into the high 30wt range, but it was still better than what any of the M1 xW-30s start out at. And I wasn't really surprised, considering what it went thru.

The only reason I'm running 0W-40 is 'cuz one change takes me a full year, so the same oil has to go thru both a 100*F summer & a 15*F winter. If we never got below freezing I'd run M1 15W-50 year round. (Actually, I have been running the 15W-50 in my '90 C900 for the past 10 mos/3500 mi, but that's another story for another day.) So for your climate, & especially the traffic, yes, I'd definitely choose the 15W-50 over anything else.

But oil's one of those funny, "personal" subjects. And this is just my opinion. For LOTS of oily fun (& while we're waiting for Rob's Saab-vs-Alfa response), git yer butt on over to BITOG ...
