Actually, the amp is only two inches high. It's just that the increased area, as compared to the Saab amp, makes the cover stick out some because
that cover is molded to the smaller Saab amp. The amp is mounted with about a 1" channel type spacer on the bottom. This is fastened on one of the bolts securing the black metal support for the dash support and then two 6mm bolts directly onto the amp heatsink. On the top I drilled a hole
in that same support and mounted a 30mm (1.5") long x 6mm bolt as a threaded stud and then double nutted on either side of the amp heatsink.

It turned out to be a solid mounting system with some adjustability so I could clear the cable for, I think, the temp adjustor. I don't have ACC so consider that.

On the head unit it's an adjustable line converter that I happened to have and I wasn't using the dash speakers (see 4-channel below) but I did have some Infinity 3052CF 3.5"s so I bought a small amp and wanted to use them as mid fills for the front. When I tried to match the volume of the component speakers it started to clip the woofer(if you can call it that!)
on the little Infinity's so I wired in the Bass Blockers. This set up sounds really good and with the line converter. Most everyone has complained of noise using speaker level inputs into a high-power amp, so make sure you use line level on everything. This whole dash set up was an afterthought for me. Many Saabers have chosen to mount the tweeters of a component system in the dash but I mounted the silk dome tweeters in the "triangle" trim of the doors (there's a tweeter just below the mirror adjustment switch) in attempt to get the voice coils aiming at your ears instead of reflecting off the windshield -worked out fantastic BTW!

So this leads us to the main 4-channel system; Rockford amp powering 6.5"
woofers in the doors (custom-made speaker baffles - not that plastic spacer crap that speaker kits come with- a whole other conversation!), tweeters mounted as decribed above and 6x9's on the rear channels. I would like to add I used a 4-gauge amp kit, a 1 farad capacitor, 14 gauge oxygen free speaker wire for everything and gold plated connectors. Overkill for a 400 watt system? maybe - the cost difference between a 8-gauge amp kit and a 4-gauge was six dollars. I think signal purity is very important and using little speaker and power wires (like the factory stuff) only robs a sound system of its potential. Don't even bother using the head unit to power any speakers directly, you'll never match the fullness or volume with a partially amped system.

I'll tell you what - I too am not looking to thump square city blocks (although I am a drummer and love that kick in the chest) I just wanted clean, semi-loud music. I think you will be very happy with a system of power and speaker upgrades. I was also on a budget (trying to save for a house) and had more time, tools and mechanical ability than duckets. And my main design criteria was NOTHING IN THE TRUNK! I use it too much and don't like too worry about wires and equipment getting damaged.

Obviously, pictures speak a thousand words. I'll try to post some in the next week. For now I'm waiting for my used CD changer to get back to the dealer -I had to send it to LA for a divorce. That will be mounted in the glove compartment after the marriage.

Best of luck with your audio project. Stay tuned for pics.
