It probably refers to the way the power is delivered to the wheels. Compare a classic 900 turbo (like my ragtop) which thanks to lag, is VERY peaky..albeit a lot of fun.
I had a Viggen for three years, and I would classify it as being somewhat peaky, only because of the torque restrictions in 1st and 2nd.
My current 9-5 Aero wagon has VERY linear power...smooth and progressive..granted, it's an automatic.
For this market, I think it's a great thing, considering Saab is up against 6 cylinders from Audi and BMW. Those engines are VERY linear in their power delivery, so Saab has tuned the engine just right in order to be competitive.
I can't wait to drive a new convertible!!
