having received front Viggen rotors and EBC pads from GenuineSAAB, gathered all my tools (had everything I needed) and purchased anti-sieze, brake grease, etc for proper maintenance while things were apart but was thwarted by . . .
THE MEATHEADS AT FIRESTONE.
I bought my S03's through firestone and they did a rotation for me about 2K miles ago. Went to undo the wheel bolts and no dice. I'm no wimp and it's clear to me that there is no friggin' way that I can get those bolts undone by hand. I got better leverage with my longer torque wrench and properly sized socket but because it is not at an angle like the provided tire tool there was significant risk of damage to the finish on the wheel. Is it not reasonable to assume that if properly torqued they should be removable by hand? What the hell would I do in the event of a flat tire? Have they possibly damaged the wheels, hub or bolts in the process? Am I just a wimp and don't know it?
Just to test the limits of the torque they put on I literally stood on the SAAB provided tire tool and not even a budge. I called them and they said sure, we'll retorque (they claimed they ALWAYS torque to OEM specifications and when I asked what that was they said oh, anywhere from 25 to 35 . . .). I finally decided that rather than ruin my Saturday sitting at Firestone just to have them retorque the bolts I'll just take it to the indy shop that said they'd do the job for no more than $100 and let them have at it. Unfortunately that will have to wait until next week as all the indy shops are closed on the weekend.
I had no problems removing the right tire when installing the KIC brace, and at the time the tires had been rotated by the dealer so at this point I have no choice but to assume that Firestone over-torqued the bolts. Any insight would be appreciated.
