Yup, they're traction limited in a big way. I have an extreme version of that problem with my old '68 Corvette (7-litre 427 engine). It's restored stock so it wears pretty pedestrian 215/70-15 tires. With 460lb-ft on tap through a close-ratio 4-spd trans and 3.70:1 posi rear I routinely experience the "fat torque / skinny tire" effect. If I'm not careful I can quickly get behind in my steering.
With the Viggen, it's pretty manageable but it is there. I've come to think Saab was wise in limiting 1st gear torque. What I wish the Viggen package would have included was an optimized set of gear ratios with a taller 1st gear to allow full torque in all gears while allowing you to reach say 40mph before having to shift to 2nd. But the software tweek was certainly much less costly for them. Anyway enjoy your Viggen!!
