The APR/relief valve is venting/obscuring the overshoots from the view of the map, not eliminating them. The MAP does not 'see' the pressure in the manifold because the APR is affectings its vision, not the reality. The ECU drives the boost indicator from the MAP signal, so that is fooled too.
If is like installing a zener diode on the MAP output to not allow the MAP signal to exceed a certain value.
I did install a modified BOV as a pop-off vavle in my 95SET to blow off boost overshoots. That worked. I was blowing off air from the TB to eat those overshoots. So the pressures then were truely reduced and the MAP had a clear view of what was going on as well. But that was expensive and difficult to do with the fabrication of an adapter manifold. That is why I proposed the MBC+anticipator, which is a good solution, cheap, effective, easy to install and easy to adjust.
Probably no harm done, but not something to leave in place either.
Part of the job here is to help folks from going down the wrong road.
