I had a 95SET with VRK, good tires, Koni's and SAS. I was pushing cloverleaf really hard and the backend swung really far out, no sound of tire slippage at all. Backed off gas it came in, snapped in, then more gas and out it came, suddenly, again. I was approaching a barrier wall and stopped doing that. The suddeness and snap action really seems to rule out the tires. And traction oversteer is not something that these vehicle do.
I never had that happen again. Was not a percieved issue in really tight high G corners in city driving. There were no other artifacts from whatever was wrong. If the rear axle is moving in tight corners in the city, you might not notice as the front wheel steering inputs are so large. But in a fast sweeping curve with high lateral loads, the movement of the rear axle becomes a significant steering input!!!
I think what happened is that one or both rear axle rubber bushings 'buckled'. I assume that this means that they were partially torn or something like that. With the suspension changes and hard corning loads the rear bushings were taking a beating. I was contemplating new bushings when I got rearended and that was not an issue anymore.
So, you can get rear axle urethane bushings. The rubber ones have pockets in them to create softness.
