Man, you must have absolutely nothing better to do. I'm not sure what's more insulting, my personal opinion on GM's involvement with Saab, or you telling me that my comments are "unfounded" and who am I to come on your precious 9-3 BB and crap all over your car?
"Next point...as much as you may hate to admit it, there's not much difference between Toyota/Lexus and Saab/Opel. Saab/Opel IS within the company. Saab and Opel are two divisions of a company called General Motors. Toyota and Lexus are two divisions of a company called Toyota Motor Corporation."
What are you talking about here? My point to you was that Lexus IS Toyota. Yes! These cars are within Toyota Motor Corporation. The Lexus is developed and created under the Toyota name. Without Toyota, there would be no Lexus. Catch my drift? I appreciate your "clarification." Saab is Saab and will continue to be even with the investing ownership of GM. Saab is a Swedish car manufacturer. GM is an American car manufacturer. Just like the Toyota/Lexus relationship, GM has Pontiac, Buick, Chevrolet, etc. These cars are engineered and created under GM. I think you get my point. All this chassis sharing is great! I see how it saves money - yes, thank you. But do YOU see how it takes away from the Saab name? Saab is clearly capable of engineering and manufacturing a fantastic automobile - without the assistance of a GM chassis. I don't think you understood me and my post from the very beginning. All you heard was "9-3" and "crap," and then your feelings were hurt. Sorry for hurting your feelings, my friend. I am not a fan of the NG or 9-3. What may be a good car to some, just might be NOT a good car to others.
"A company that doesn't make money doesn't stick around very long." Uh, yes, thank you. Saab doesn't need GM's involvement, but unfortunately, because they need GM's money, they have to use GM's involvement. This isn't an easy subject to deal with - Saab has always been a company based on uniqueness and ingenuity. When you start to compromise the individuality with a shared chassis or whatnot, you lose that special flavor and become another division of a big company. As long as GM simply funds Saab and doesn't engineer Saab (that also means, giving them parts to piece their cars together), then people will buy.
Now, the SS is a fantastic improvement and follow up to the savior 9-5! I only wish that it had been introduced 2 years ago - although, the Viggen did help the NG for a few years. A friend and I drove a SS over a weekend last spring and had some serious fun. The car is a vast improvement - a new hope for Saab. Already, the car's brought sales to new heights and made much more folk aware of the Swedish car know-how. They were even given the honor of being number one European Carmaker in the 2003 JD power csi study.
So, my sensitive friend, you can defend your car and tell me that you absolutely love it, but please don't insult my intelligence by giving me these little lessons in auto manufacturing. I just didn't see the NG900 as being the savior that the 9-5 (or even 9-3SS) turned out to be - not just engineering-wise, but also sales-wise.
Anyhow, good luck to you and I hope you have many lovely miles in your 9-3.
Cheers.
