I bought my 1999 93se manual as a comfortable commuter car for one but my wife and I tend to run around with our baby, carriage & gear in my 9-3 due to the huge trunk and the crappy mileage on my wife's truck. At 17 months Matthew can kick the seat backs with the best of them. I'm sure it will be even tighter with a forward and rear facing seats with the next baby due in April. If I had the cash I would have bought a 9-5 wagon with a stick shift but the $14,000 price on the 93se fit my budget better. A year later knowing my wife would wan't to dump her Mercedes c240 sedan for a ML350, I would shop hard and try to find a 95 wagon before plunking down the cash on the 93. I agree with the other posters that the 95 sedan isn't very useful with children due to the smaller trunk opening.
I looked at cars.com and It looks like the going rate for a 2000 9-5 Wagon with a manual and less than 50,000 miles is around $18,000. The car would be roomier for everyone including the kids as they get older. PS keep an eye out for an Aero with the rare ventilated seat option!
