I do not understand this. Others have commented on this on the 9-5 board...Its true that the saab remote only works from a closer distance then other manufacturers. I think its a security feature.
Driving other vehicles, rentals, etc., I have always thought it was strange how these things always seemed to work from a half mile away. It always seemed to me it would be easy to unlock your car accidently with the key in your pocket or purse, and I was actually paranoid about this with volvos. I'd carefully place the key in my breast pocket so until I was a long distance from the car. It's been a 'peeve' of mine, along with cars that start remotely=stupid...AND cars that blow their horn when you lock them= obnoxious.
When I got the saab I realized the remote only worked from 20 feet or so...I was delighted. That seems smart, safer and more secure.
Why do others complain about this ? I can't think of any reason for unlocking the car until your pretty much ready to open the door to get into it.
