Champion spark plugs anyone?

I was sold a set of Champion spark plugs and the car ran great for a four or five weeks. Then I drove it some 500 miles, only to have the ceramic tips burn too hot and disinegrate down into the engine, melting an internal engine component, and destroying two valves. The Saab dealer immediatelty commented that Champion spark plugs should never be used in Saabs. Despite having the head machined and a few valves replaced, I am left with a ticking noise.
I now question to what extent use of improper plugs could destroy one's engine. The dealer tells me that such damage could only be caused by excessive heat caused by the use of improper spark plugs or lack of maintenance. The vehicle has a very good maintenance record, so I am left wondering if I might have a claim aginst the spark plug manufacturer...after all they warrant their parts to meet or exceed "manufacturer's engine specifications".
I am looking for other Saab owners who may have some knowledge and/or experience of incurring engine damage due to improper spark plug use.
