No misapplication. Champion sells a Platinum plug specifically designed to function within the correct heat range for the '99 9-3 Turbo. Yet, after only 1000 miles, those plugged overheated so severly that the ceramic tips burned off and a valve was shown to actually have melted. There was also some obvious damage to the Direct Ignition, though this still, somehow, functions.
I just drove the car 700 miles, no problem. Then on my return home, the car, intermittently, lost power on ascents. Within a few miles of a Saab dealer, the check engine light came on. I immediately called the service department and was informed that , so long as the check engine light was not blinking, I could drive the vehicle the short distance to the dealership. No obvious signs of overheating...temperature gauge okay, no smell.
